WAVES

“I used to wake up late, first thing I did was take my phone into my hand and lay.” - Those are lyrics from my 9th album “WAVES”, which is officially out now on the main page of this website. It perfectly describes the person that I used to be: Overweight, depressed, late to work, and too consumed with technology, social media, and streaming numbers. But now I stand 10 toes as a new man who is fully in tune on the highest waves.

“WAVES” is my 5th album since 2024, and it stands alone among my entire catalog. This album isn’t about the past, it doesn’t revisit old trauma, and it doesn’t delve into any negative situations. “WAVES” is my most positive music ever, although I’ve had flashes on past projects of positivity, I always wound up back in the past, milling over old wounds. With my 8th album, “The Long Way Home”, which was released this past Spring, I finally left all of that in the past. The 2nd half of “The Long Way Home” is actually a perfect transition into “WAVES”. Like all of my music in the past 3 years or so, every song of this new album was intentionally created with only myself in mind, I only made what I wanted to hear. Melodies, synths, and drums the way I want them to be. I am not concerned about how it sounds to anyone else, or how many plays it gets, only that I enjoy it.

There are a few main themes on “WAVES”. The first is perseverance and triumph, early on in the album, you are met with punchy trap drums, ‘EDM/Club like’ synths and loud trunk shaking bass. On track 1, I wanted the listener to feel like they are just chilling, enjoying the beach and then out of nowhere the wave is coming full speed at them and instead of resisting it, they just lay there and let it consume them. There is a cool sample in the beginning of track 1 that reminds me of a chill beach day, and then I added some waves, FX and beach sounds in the background, but as soon as you get used to calm, the bass drops into loud electric synths and tight snares.

The first 4 tracks on “WAVES” are huge, loud, turn up tracks, but then on track 5, “Save Yourself”, the energy quickly shifts, as if the wave has just passed by us and we are on the other side of the crescendo. After this, the album takes a much calmer tone, with instruments shifting away from electronic synths and sampled vocals to soothing guitars, pianos, and acoustic drums. This vibe continues all the way until the end. Another overarching theme on “WAVES” is love. I am lucky to be married to my best friend, my wife, and to have a beautiful daughter. I talk about them in depth on a few tracks on the 2nd half of this project, and there is even a feature from my daughter on track 6: “Learn to let it fall”.

I also wrote a song called “Away From Here” while on a trip back home to Minnesota recently. This is track 9 on “WAVES”. I wrote this song after battling extreme anxiety from passing by the cities in which so much of my early childhood trauma resides. But, instead of letting it consume me, I am certain in the fact that moving away was the right decision and that my heart and soul are exactly where they need to be here in Tennessee.

Over the last 28 months, I have changed in so many ways. Mentally, physically, and spiritually. I have learned so much about myself and about life in general. One of the things I've learned is that bad times, tough times, are just as inevitable as good times. Life is all about balance, I have had to learn to maintain a positive attitude no matter the situation. One of the ways I have done this is by meditating and journaling every single morning. Life doesn't need to be perfect all of the time, because the perfection of life actually lies in all of the imperfections. I have done a lot of self work and I have learned that life is really just WAVES: Good times - Bad times- In Between times - Love - Joy; It all comes and goes, just like waves in the ocean, and like waves, nothing is permanent. Just enjoy the ride, and keep your balance.

I hope you enjoy my 9th Studio Album “WAVES”!!! THANK YOU FOR READING AND LISTENING!!!
