Change

Life is full of change, but that doesn’t mean that change is easy to handle. Recently, I have experienced lots of change in my life, and soon, I will experience it again. There's a quiet elegance to sameness, the slow pace of a day where we already know what we are going to face. Maybe not every single detail, but overall, we have a pretty good idea of how this day will play out. We can predict what will go wrong with 80% accuracy, and our brain will lead us to believe that we can handle whatever today throws at us, because we’ve probably been through dozens of days just like this one before. What our brain might be leaving out though, is the quiet exhaustion from the mundane sameness, the sameness that was once quiet and beautiful, is now boring, and repulsive. Human beings are not meant to stay in the same place, we are meant to move, to change, and to grow.

What is scarier? Living this exact same day 1,000 more times, or being brave and jumping into a new tomorrow, one that you cannot predict? I think the sameness we have been referencing is far more scary than the new day. I have battled a large amount of anxiety lately as I navigate the new day. I have laid awake at night going over every possible thing that could go wrong on the unfamiliar path I have chosen once again. What I keep reminding myself is that the path behind me, the one I have come to know so well, was once brand new too. The bad day that feels almost normal now, once felt like too much to handle. It can be hard to see from the point of view behind your own eyes, but if you could zoom all the way out, and watch yourself from a camera in the sky, you would see how much you have grown.

I would see how much I have grown, wow.

Sameness can be so comfortable. Sameness can be so cozy. But all these feelings are tricking you, these feelings aren’t real. That tiny voice in your head, or that small uneasy feeling in your stomach that is telling you, that you are meant for more than the same you’ve always known, that small voice and subtle feeling should be listened to. Change must happen, because you and I, we’re human, we are meant to keep changing - keep moving - and to keep going.

Don’t stop now.

I believe in you.
